grey’s anatomy

one of the illustrations i worked on during the last months was
based on the alexander wang collection from spring 2010.
just a felt second after that the braid and open toes shoes
madness began…

brand new

glossy
image cameron-james wilson [glossy magazine]

the london based glossy magazine has always a long list of
interesting contributors from different backgrounds.
this time is no exception: jessy from wideawakethoughts
writes about her internship experience at lutece productions,
a production and casting agency in new york.
definitely worth reading.

i was happy to contribute a little illustration myself
which you can check out here.

all black everything {the corset}

corsette_2corsette1

what can i say? the corset is making its
comeback loud and clear. not quite a
recent invention and for a long time
classified as the ultimate lingerie item,
it was only worn publicly by questionable
singers (and we all know, this does not come
even close to reality).

but, nobody puts baby in the corner and
somehow it surfaced with grace and
lost on the way its reputation.
now, it passes the test as a cute something,
especially once it is styled in a relaxed way.
and since corset shaped dresses
are all over the place right now,
we have to admit that it comes in pretty handy
with all the festive days ahead of us.

all black everything {the jacket}

overknees

the jacket is without a doubt an all time  classic,
one we never get tired of.
yes, it may be very formal, but it also
can be very laid back. it all comes down
to the fabric and the cut, and the way
it is styled.

the one i chose for my illustration is an oversize
type of jacket styled with another wow-item: overknees.
maybe not that much obvious to wear,
but can definitely look great.

burberry I

burberry_2burberry
so, here it is.
a little burberry something.
a classic trench coat gone wild.

“wild?” you ask me.
and i do get your point.
i actually took a look at the collection of
our bad boy alexander mcqueen
.
and yes, I do appreciate alien shoes,
larger than life and my cat altogether
(i don’t know where this comes from,
i’m sure alex would, at least after we had
a round or two of guinness).
but from time to time,
it can be nice to wear something wearable.
like made for being worn.
call me crazy.

et oui, et oui…
it’s been quite a while since the last illustration.

lately there has been a little print project
which kept and keeps me still busy.
a part of it arrived just yesterday
and reminded me of the awesomeness
of freshly printed goods.

yes. i’m serious.

serious

so, the illustrations for rausch magazine are done
and I’m all “yay!” about it.
there has been even a sort of premiere involved,
this much I can say already.

meanwhile I happened to notice, that it is summer (indeed!)
and that it would be nice to enjoy it a little bit:
I’m signing off for two weeks guys and
will be back with some fresh ideas and illustrations.

have a great time – see you in september.

today the balenciaga dress received the very last final touch.
the very very last.
a little bit of color to enhance the softness.

the little black dress

litttle_black_dressalessandro_dal_buoni_3nick_knight_8litttle_black_dress_2drewjoe_lally_1

the little black dress is one of the things related to fashion you never get tired of.
it is not a classic, it is the classic. and I’m sure that there is a blog exclusively dedicated
to it somewhere out there (there is one dedicated to smoking, for example, so you get my point).
today, I’m willing to spare you my personal dissertation on this subject, I’m just going to
admit that the first time I saw breakfast at tiffany’s, I was quite disappointed. I do like
audrey hepburn, but somehow I liked the book a big deal more as truman capote and
his works stepped into my life. but maybe the movie deserves another try?

voilà the result of the color explosion I told you about yesterday.
I hope you dig it as much as I do.
(rumors said that is perfectly healthy to be satisfied with your work from time to time)

voilà. the wonderful J.

I already made portraits of people that I know in the past. but in a more sketchy way (and often with a pen). this gives you the possibility to concentrate mainly on the characteristic lines. it is like outlining and capturing the essence of a person. but, when you take the there-is-no-such-thing-as-details-path everything changes. it occurred to me that it is quite particular to make such a portrait of someone you know.

let’s compare it with a game situation. you play it online with lots of people you don’t know in rl (yeah, real life). so you have the possibility to imagine a lot of things concerning their characters, even if they are completely different. like: maybe he owns a cat farm or he must definitely wear those incredibly skinny jeans and then, there are sometimes people you know in rl and there is not much room for imagination. how does this translates into painting someone? if you have no idea about somebody’s facial expression and you haven’t the purpose that she/ he recognizes herself/ himself, you can do whatever you want and change things as you want them to be. but if you know the person, well, you stick to every little thing. even a tiny millimeter seems like a mile…
