Street style photography has massively changed over the last years, so much in fact that it has led to an outcry of Suzy Menkes (remember her famous article?). Following fashion week equals still having a look at street style shots for me. However…

Issue n°1: There is probably some kind of saturation that has crept in overtime. The captured outfits lead rather to a yawn than to an inspiring moment.
Issue n°2: A colour explosion topped by futurustic elements and a bouquet of flowers means my attention, but attention does not necessarily equal interest.
Issue n°3:  Most of the looks seem by now far from being genuine and authentic but either an outcry for attention (see issue n°2) or an literal extension from the runway. Minus the overall vision of the designer and the show aspect that goes with it.

Sometimes, though, I come across pictures like the ones showed above. Pretty nice examples of how to style a sneaker if you ask me. Rather simple and yet more than enough to get me thinking what I like about them…

Currently on the hunt for a pair of black pumps. Simple things, classics really, are all about the right shape, the right cut, the right material.  Think simple white T. Or  jacket. Finding The One is not as easy as one might think, right?

If you are spending a little bit of time on tumblr, you have probably come around this picture already. Maybe even several times. This doesn’t stop me from posting it, though, and I hope you don’t mind. I really love the simplicity of this look and I firmly believe that I am going to feel the exact same way next year (and the year after that).

It also reminds me that my search for the perfect blue shirt wasn’t successful yet. If you have came upon the perfect one, I would love to hear…

SaintLaurent_1ysl_1It would be a shame to close The case Saint Laurent without mentioning Hedi’s first addition to the accessory department: a bag (spotted thanks to The Man Repeller). And let’s throw in the most gorgeous pair of sandals for good measure (found on Andy Heart). Now, we can move on.

A beautiful shot of Prabal Gurung and Zoe Saldana arriving at the CFDA awards. And a kind reminder that we all would miss out a lot if there wasn’t such a thing as a well tailored suit.

Sometimes you just have to put two and two together. Or in that case combine a lighter/ brighter shade with a darker/ subtler one.

Valentino fall 2013
Another day. Another cape. Or so they say. As you know I’m leaning heavily toward a wool coat investment wise. But then again, seeing all these beautiful capes leave me wondering…
Let’s snap back to reality. And to the picture above. Yes, it is indeed one of these looks which remind me of the Céline aesthetic. Exquisite tailoring and no fuss. Maybe the overall longing for minimalism and less frills have caught on with others designers and translates therefore in a cleaner approach here and there. What counts in the end is that you can still spot the signature of each individual label and as a matter of fact Valentino’s designer duo did this successfully even with an all white and all clean look (the  hood, the shoes, the headband, the styling).
Even though I could probably go on and on about this all white look, I would like to direct your attention to yet another eye candy from their fall 2013 collection. Now, who doesn’t want to snatch that dress right from the runway?

Quite a few great collections were showcased on the Parisian runway and I would like to share a few of my favourite looks during the next few days. A label that caught my attention quite unexpectedly was Chloé. There was elegance and there was toughness. There were bare faces and high boots. There was an edge (piercings!) to an otherwise polished look. Usually those exact words would be found written below another designer’s work. In other words: this season feels tremendously influenced by a Céline kind point of view. More proof to come…

pre-fall_2013
I was this close to name this post „holy cow“ and I must say, I feel a little bit guilty about it. But you have to admit: this picture practically begs for it. The name is not the only thing I should probably feel guilty about. A cowhide print? Am I serious? Believe me, I wish I wasn’t. But sometimes designer are able to do something right what you always thought to be so wrong. And then, bamm! You like something more than you are ready to admit to yourself, to anybody really. But look, here I am, telling you this. Awkward, but true. Hello, I’m Marzena and I happen to like Ricardo Tisci’s interpretation of a cowhide print. Now is your turn…

Last week I spoke about one of the most classic combinations in fashion town, black and white. I immediately had this image in my mind and yes, I already posted in once, back in the days, but I hope that you agree with me: it one of those pictures that deserves a repost. For me, it represents the epitome of elegance.
I think (and I probably always will) that you can never go wrong when your choice fells on black and white. I also think that rolled-up sleeves are a small change, but always have quite an impact which should not be underestimated. It really changes the look completely, since you can switch the degree of formality in about a second. And then there is the matter of gold and silver, mixed up. It is not necessarily a pair which always works well together, but that picture is definitely a hell of a good proof that it can be done. Finally, there are two objects in this picture which serve perfectly well for two posts coming up this week (and since there are not many options, I think you can guess which ones I have in mind). Stay tuned…
