Remember how people always say that you have to see things from a different perspective? And how hard it is to suppress a deep sigh and not to give them THE look? Now, maybe they are onto something. At least in this particular case. If I don’t have any time on my hands and I twist my hair up without any effort and attention whatsoever, the result would be very close to the one shown above. The created effect could only be described by me with something close to „nah!“. Let me throw a glance at the picture above however and you will see me saying things like „look“ and all of a sudden I will break into an ode to the oh-so-appealing careless approach. Everything is a matter of perspective, right?
Street style photography has massively changed over the last years, so much in fact that it has led to an outcry of Suzy Menkes (remember her famous article?). Following fashion week equals still having a look at street style shots for me. However…
Issue n°1: There is probably some kind of saturation that has crept in overtime. The captured outfits lead rather to a yawn than to an inspiring moment.
Issue n°2: A colour explosion topped by futurustic elements and a bouquet of flowers means my attention, but attention does not necessarily equal interest.
Issue n°3: Most of the looks seem by now far from being genuine and authentic but either an outcry for attention (see issue n°2) or an literal extension from the runway. Minus the overall vision of the designer and the show aspect that goes with it.
Sometimes, though, I come across pictures like the ones showed above. Pretty nice examples of how to style a sneaker if you ask me. Rather simple and yet more than enough to get me thinking what I like about them…
The title is not sticking a hundred per cent to the truth (after all there is a golden coloured bag peeking from under the coat). But once I have gotten over the fact how lovely this shot was, I couldn’t help myself but focus on the colour combination. Putting an outfit together by mixing red, white and blue means that one runs automatically and very dangerously close to the fine line of becoming an impersonated flag. In this case the danger has been elegantly avoided and yet. I am not quite sure if I will y remain an admirer from afar or an active part of this particular tricolour movement.

It seems as though a new attitude towards sneakers has been shaped over the last months. It has become a real „thing“ by now. You can see them everywhere and you can buy them everywhere (hello Zara!). You can choose from an enormous variety and you can combine them with everything. Maybe it is quite daring to pinpoint a certain moment or even look as the trigger for this craze. And yet, I am willing to take the risk. There is one look who has been posted on various street style blogs during fashion week this March and who has practically exploded all over the internet. A woman wearing a classic camel coat, a pair of slim white jeans and — surprise — Nikes. (And by the way: I plead guilty since I couldn’t resist to dedicate a post to it as well.)
It is pretty certain that other factors have played a role in this development, than one single woman and a few pictures. However, I do think that it has contributed in some way. Maybe even in a big.

We just saw an example of a perfect and effortless look for the ladies. Now, it just seems right to come up with something inspirational for the gents.
Something which applies in both cases: It is not only about the right ingredients, it s also about the right styling. Rolled-up sleeves or hem are probably the easiest way to introduce some „easiness“ into your wardrobe.

If you are spending a little bit of time on tumblr, you have probably come around this picture already. Maybe even several times. This doesn’t stop me from posting it, though, and I hope you don’t mind. I really love the simplicity of this look and I firmly believe that I am going to feel the exact same way next year (and the year after that).
It also reminds me that my search for the perfect blue shirt wasn’t successful yet. If you have came upon the perfect one, I would love to hear…

Best of both worlds. Or so it seems. Remember this post? Now, if that is not the perfect materialisation of an innocent little blog post, I don’t know what is.

Sometimes you just have to put two and two together. Or in that case combine a lighter/ brighter shade with a darker/ subtler one.
Turning theory into practice. Today: combining formal pieces with casual wear.

Sometimes I like to keep things sweet and short and that can be due to many reasons. Maybe I don’t have a lot to say or maybe I’m just not in the mood to elaborate. Maybe I have a bad day and can’t hardly put a word in front of another (in writing that is, you should not be worried).
Sometimes I relish to dive deeper into thoughts, to elaborate them and to venture a little bit further. Maybe a thought is in the back of my mind for quite a while already and I just have to put it in words. Maybe I have a good day and unexpectedly two or three sentences become all of a sudden fare more than that.
Whether it is a short text or a more extensive one, I enjoy the variety in writing. Both have something special about them that speaks in their favour. And to be frank, it also takes the pressure away to always „deliver“.
Now, you might think „this is all well and good…but where is she going here?“. Admittedly the connection between the picture above and my thoughts on writing is not the most evident. Just give me one more second (or minute) and you will get an exclusive behind the scenes look of the inexplicable wickedness of my mind (just kidding here). I really like the picture above and when I wrote about the roll-neck sweater yesterday, it instantly popped up in my mind. That certainly speaks in favour of the photograph, but also of something else: the styling. I love the idea of tucking your hair into your turtleneck for an instant change (just as Garance pointed it out in her post). It is one of those things that I love to do during autumn or winter, although my weapon of choice would be more often than not a chunky scarf.
So here you are, the essence of this post was nothing else than an ode to variety. Let’s raise our glasses to that!
