Just before heading out for a lovely dinner date, I wanted to share this picture with you. In my opinion, this is the perfect proof that slightly wavy and tousled hair can be truly wonderful.

Some things in life appear incredibly simple and yet, they are everything but. Take for example good writing. The author has probably agonized over this and that word, or maybe even the whole chapter, in the end maybe even the whole book. When the reader turns page after page, he is enjoying the ride: happy and oblivious to the amount of time the person behind those words spent in limbo. The same is true for good design, no matter the field. It all seems so evident like there couldn’t be possibly any other way. It all seems so easy. The key word in fashion would be „effortless“, a word that can be very much misleading. Yet the picture above wants me to believe otherwise.

Since the last post was about minimalism, I figured that this portrait would be a perfect follow-up. It really is simplicity at its best. And yet, although this shot is bare of any extravaganza, all those delicate and powdery shades remind me of one of the most visually extravagant movies out there: Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette. All sorts of pictures are bubbling up in my mind and all of them are exquisite: horse-drawn carriages and over-the-top perukes, embroidered silk slippers and opulent gowns. Amidst all of that, cheekbones heavy with rouge and hair lavishly dusted with powder.
